YFood Labs secures Series A funding led by food tech investor Five Seasons Ventures to bring healthy functional food to Millennials

Food Tech start-up YFood has raised 4.2 million euros Series A led by food tech investor Five Seasons Ventures. The round was joined by US VC New Ground Ventures and existing investors.

Munich, June 2019 – Founders Ben and Noël founded YFood Labs GmbH at the end of 2017 with the goal of creating a healthy and convenient full meal solution. “Time is money – and junk food is abundantly available, but obviously unhealthy!” The two founders had to experience this gap the hard way. « Before YFood, we were exposed to a very stressful working day in the financial industry. After a while our health began to suffer, and we decided to look for solutions. » the founders said. Nowadays, meals must be fast, yet more and more consumers are conscious of health and nutritional balance. The idea for YFood was born: a delicious, well-balanced meal in a convenient drink format, which satisfies hunger and provides the body with all the essential macro and micro nutrients.

The young Munich-based company has achieved tremendous growth within a short period of time, via direct-to-consumer sales and over 6,000 physical points-of-sale in the DACH area. Since launch, the company served over 2 million meals to thousands of loyal customers, who became part of their engaged community of followers.

Five Seasons Ventures, the leading European Food Tech venture fund, led the 4.2 million euros Series A round, joined by US investor New Ground Ventures and Frank Thelen from the German TV equivalent of « Shark Tank », who previously invested in the company. Niccolo Manzoni and Ivan Farneti, partners at Five Seasons Ventures mentioned: “we were impressed by the drive and achievements of Ben and Noël, their focus on the large and unexploited German-speaking market and their ability to activate a ‘tribe’ of consumers and followers.”

YFood intends to further strengthen its market position as a leading provider of functional complete meals in the DACH region by widening its product portfolio and growing the size of the team within the next months.
